A community for the elderly is a residential unit that offers housing (temporary or permanent), comprehensive care and services for the elderly, such as nursing, cleaning, assistance, among others. At the same time, it promotes healthy coexistence among its residents, in order to reflect a peaceful and respectful environment.
But what are those aspects that encourage a cozy and homelike atmosphere in these communities? Here, we tell you about them:
- The design of its infrastructure has been thought for the comfort of the elderly: common spaces such as living rooms, gardens and dining room where they feel at ease sharing with other residents.
- Each senior lives in a furnished apartment, which allows them to appropriate their personal space and establish social interactions with their neighbors. An example of this is Verdeza, where each senior citizen is encouraged to keep their personal tastes in their apartment, that is, to "live on their own terms", which allows them to develop a bond with the community in which they live.
- The treatment of the staff in charge of providing care and attention to the elderly is cordial and respectful. Older adults feel accepted and loved. Each one comes to be considered a fundamental part of the community.
- Older adults are often interested in maintaining healthy social relationships because of their experience and wisdom. As we have mentioned in previous blogs, in older adulthood people come to understand that affection and friendship nurture their old age.
