On this August 15, we want to celebrate the mothers who are part of a community for older adults. Each one of them has performed motherhood in an admirable way, facing the different challenges that this role implies.
To be a mother is to provide care and affection to one's children, to accompany them during their growth stages, to guide them and to be present in the decisive moments of their lives. Most of them practiced their profession tirelessly without neglecting that their children had everything they needed, such as human warmth and comfort.
Nowadays, mothers who are older adults are in a very particular stage, in which people tend to remember their past experiences and contemplate their most important decisions and events. We are sure that having been a mother means a relevant milestone in their lives, which endowed them with knowledge and experience.
From it (motherhood) they have experienced joys, worries, suffering and fear, but we are sure that all of them are proud of their performance as mothers. We know that the notion of the "perfect mother" is incompatible with reality, but we can speak of empowered, resilient, courageous and strong women: capable of coping with their diverse contexts.
At present, these mothers are enjoying the stage of old age in a community of older adults where they live daily with other people who enrich them. At this point in their lives, they live comfortably and quietly in their apartment, which allows them to maintain a balance between their individuality or autonomy and their social circle.
Being part of a residence for older adults offers these women a series of opportunities and benefits, for example: the coexistence and accompaniment of the other residents, the stimulating and pleasurable activities they carry out on a daily basis, being able to age actively and from a positive perspective, and maintaining closeness with their loved ones; meanwhile, for older mothers, now more than ever, the emotional ties with their loved ones are more important than ever.
With much affection we wish a Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers of Verdeza!
