Leisure time in older adults

Throughout most of our adult life we dream of having more free time, we study, work or struggle through life to reach a future, unknown point, a time where we will have the opportunity to do all those things we never had time for.

Most will agree with us that time is today's most precious commodity and many of us feel that the day simply does not have enough hours for all that we would like to accomplish on a personal and professional level. And this is why the transition to becoming an older adult often becomes a kind of threat for some, a challenge for others, of how to fill all those spaces, how to occupy all that idle time that used to be destined to countless work and family activities and from one moment to the next, we find ourselves in another stage of life, where the load drops, where professional and social activities are reduced and a great void is left to be filled.

In many cases, the social networks that have been built over a lifetime (and we are not talking about Facebook or Instagram) can become essential in defining what to do with all that free time. Having a group of like-minded people, family or friends at this stage of life will definitely be of great help to keep us busy. Others, in earlier stages, manage to cultivate hobbies such as sports, a passion for the arts, or a vocation for spirituality or volunteering, which allow them to occupy a good part of their time as they move on to other stages of their lives.

Constructive and entertaining free time!

Then it becomes essential to support our older adults in the construction of those spaces and meaningful activities that have to do with the physical, emotional and cognitive, in other words, allow the older adult to assume new roles and challenges in their lives as an active member of society, directly impacting their older adult peers as well as contributing to nurture the new generations with their experience and testimony of life.

It is a fact that nowadays, people reach this life cycle in better physical and intellectual conditions than two decades ago and it is for this reason that in Verdeza we constantly try to increase the offer of services and alternatives to occupy that valuable free time that the elderly have, promoting the extension of the autonomous and full life of our residents.
